Cheese and Grape Canapes
2025-12-10

Cheese and grape canapes are one of the simplest yet most striking appetizers for a holiday table — no cooking involved, assembled in minutes, and the classic pairing of cheese, sweet grapes, and nuts is a near-universal crowd-pleaser.
The trick to a good canape is contrast: different textures and flavors on a single skewer. A firm aged cheese brings salty depth, a soft cheese adds creaminess, and the juicy grape and crunchy nut round it out with freshness and a touch of sweetness. That’s why it’s worth using two or three different cheeses rather than sticking to just one.
Choose medium-sized seedless grapes so they sit evenly on the skewer next to the cheese. It’s best to assemble these shortly before serving — cheese softens if it sits too long at room temperature, and honey drizzled too early will simply run off the grapes. These canapes pair especially well with a glass of dry wine, since cheese and grapes together are considered one of the most reliable combinations for a wine-friendly bite.
Ingredients
- 200 g hard cheese (parmesan or cheddar)
- 150 g soft cheese such as brie or camembert
- 300 g seedless grapes (red and green)
- 50 g walnuts or almonds
- honey, for drizzling
- sprigs of rosemary or mint, for garnish
- 20-24 cocktail skewers
Instructions
- Rinse the grapes and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Cut the hard cheese into small cubes, roughly 1.5 cm on each side.
- Cut the soft cheese into thin wedges, or scoop it into small rounds with a spoon.
- Toast the nuts in a dry skillet for 2-3 minutes to bring out more flavor, then let them cool.
- Thread the skewers, alternating a grape, a cube of cheese, and a nut.
- Arrange the finished skewers on a flat serving platter.
- Drizzle with honey just before serving and garnish with sprigs of rosemary or mint.
