Berry Smoothie Bowl
2026-06-23

A smoothie bowl differs from a regular smoothie mainly in texture and presentation, but that difference changes the whole experience. The base is thick enough to eat with a spoon, then topped with fresh berries, granola, and seeds — somewhere between a smoothie and a dessert, and filling enough to count as a real breakfast.
The trick to getting the right thickness is frozen fruit and minimal added liquid. Too much yogurt and the smoothie turns runny, letting toppings sink instead of sitting on top. A frozen banana helps too — it chills the mixture while its starch makes it creamier, without diluting it.
Toppings aren’t just decoration here — without them the bowl would just be soft fruit purée. Granola and nuts add crunch, fresh berries bring juiciness and tartness, chia seeds add fiber. A good rule of thumb: include at least one crunchy element and one juicy one so every spoonful has something going on.
Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackcurrants all work alone or blended together, and frozen berries are actually more convenient than fresh — no extra ice needed, always on hand. Yogurt does double duty: it builds the creamy texture and adds protein, making the bowl more filling than a plain fruit purée. Greek yogurt gives an even thicker, more protein-rich bowl, while regular kefir keeps things lighter with a sharper tang.
This breakfast is easy to partly prep the night before — portion the frozen berries and banana into a bag. Assembly and toppings, though, are best done right before serving, since toppings lose their crunch fast on a moist surface.
Ingredients
- 300 g frozen mixed berries (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry)
- 1 banana
- 100 ml yogurt or kefir
- 2 tbsp rolled oats
- 1 tsp honey (optional)
- a handful of fresh berries, for topping
- 1 tbsp granola
- 1 tsp chia seeds
Instructions
- Cut the banana into chunks; freeze half of it for 10 minutes for a colder bowl.
- Combine the frozen berries, banana, yogurt, and oats in a blender.
- Blend on high, stopping to push the mixture down with a spatula as needed, until thick and smooth.
- Taste and stir in honey if you’d like it sweeter.
- Spoon the smoothie into a wide bowl and smooth the top.
- Arrange fresh berries, granola, and chia seeds on top in neat rows.
- Serve immediately, before the smoothie starts to soften.
